Jon and Kate

I have watched the "Jon and Kate Plus Eight" show since it started, and just fell in love with the family, the kids, and the amazing way they handled that many kids. It was just fascinating and motivating to see how two 6 year olds and 6 two year olds could, in fact, go to Disney, have fun, and not get lost. Each time I watched it, I'd come away like, "Yes, I can handle my two toddlers!" Or I'd steal an organization idea. I loved it.

But last night, as I watched Jon and Kate announce they were divorcing, I felt so much sorrow for them and for the marriage that isn't being saved.

So many times each of them said the kids came first and were their priority-Kate even mentioned that the whole reason she breathes is for the kids. And that is all fine and dandy, but I wonder if perhaps that is the root of their problems. For years Jon seemingly took whatever C**P Kate seemed to throw at him, and all in all she never did treat him with respect when the cameras where around. And Jon never seemed to care, he just simply ignored it. At least when the cameras were around.

So perhaps instead of doing everything for the kids, they really should have (and maybe still could) start to focus on each other. And put each other first, treating each other with dignity and respect. And perhaps a smart idea would be to stop the show, or cut back the show, so they could focus more on being a family, rather than putting on a show for the tv audience.

Cause I'm pretty sure all the kids would really rather have their parents lovingly together, than to get some amazing play houses.

So I am torn as to whether I will watch anymore, simply because I feel like the show and the fame really took its toll on Jon and Kate, and escalated the issues that tore them apart. And the millions from the show made it an easier option to just go get a divorce and buy an apartment at Trump Towers, rather than to go through years of counseling to help mend the cracks.

So I don't know, but I am very sad for the Gosselins and their children.

Oh good, I'm glad you actually care! John was NOT interested last night.

While I agree that Kate was at times horrible to him on the show, last night I lost a lot of respect for Jon as well. To me, he came across as a bit immature and moody. I felt that during a lot of his interview it was "I'm only 32, I've got my whole life ahead of me, I can't wait to see what comes next, I can do this this this..."blah blah blah! Grow up, be a real man, and take your commitements seriously.

After 10 years and 8 kids, you need to explore every option to make your marriage work. Period.

I had never watched the show until recently and caught some of it and what's been on the news. Your post have me the chills. I'm so sorry for their difficult time.

Seriously, they couldn't do couples therapy? Your marriage is not suppose to be a walk in the park...and especially when you have kids. This is what you call challenges and how well you can work together...it is all about team work and loving one another. It is really sad to see them fall apart. I was rooting for them, but some how I knew they weren't going to last...best of luck to them and the future that lies ahead of them.

I agree! I once read a wonderful article about how the first priority should be your spouse and then your kids. They got it a little backwards. They should have stepped away from the show a long time ago. Let's face it...the house they originally was not very small. They could have lived there for a long time. They care to much about the material things now. I guess that's what fame does to you...

I couldn't agree more! I am just so sad for them....it's such a shame what the show has become, too. I was just like you...I love watching the episodes because they made me feel like I could handle my 2. But now...I don't even think I'll watch it anymore. It doesn't even have anything to do with supporting the show...it's just too sad to watch what it's become. :(

While Kate may have treated Jon poorly in the past, he participated by not standing up for himself from the beginning. At this point, we can't blame the tormentor when he victim let it continue un-checked.

And didn't they just buy that house a couple of months ago? According to the radio, their separation paperwork stated that they had lived "separately and independently for 2 years," simply faking it for the good of the show.

I agree that Jon did come across as pretty immature. I think Kate is only a few years older than he is, but it seems like they rushed into having kids too soon. Too many and too young. 8 kids at age 27?? Crazy... He should have thought about his need for independence before agreeing to have fertility treatments even one time. Geez...

And Kate is either a really good actress, or she is really in a lot of pain, and understandably so. At the end of the last season (early May), the final interview had Kate wanting to continue the show and Jon not wanting to come back for another season. So...

The radio also said that his "girlfriend" Danielle is going to appear on the next season. I guess there is something going on with her after all.

Like you, I have watched this show regularly from the very beginning- even when it was just a 1-hr. special on TLC. It's a much different show now than it was then, that's for sure.

Sorry this comment was so long. No one else I know watches this show so I'm thrilled that you do. We'll have to gossip about it some more soon! :)

I agree completely Jon is a lot to blame-I was really annoyed to hear him say "I'm only 32, I don't know what I want to do"-Really? That lame?

Also, I didn't realize they were living separate lives for 2 years now!!! WTF? They just faked it for the show? What was all that about her being nervous to talk to him-like it was a new thing? And if his girlfriend really comes on the show next season, it will be a certainty I won't be watching. Those poor Gosslin kids don't need the world watching them go through all this. How very sad for them.

I saw a report about that "apart for two years" thing... it was worded strangely in the papers... i just means when they are apart for two years.... yadda yadda. Supposedly they have not been apart for two years.

But I do believe they've been faking it for the show for several months or longer.

What breaks my heart is the kids. Only the kids. I feel somewhat bad for Kate because I think this is ALL Jon and his early mid-life crisis.

I think Jon is going to do a lot of damage to his kids the way he has been acting. He makes me so sick now.

I can't believe they renewed their vows only a couple years ago, and made that promise to their kids and in front of their kids... now look at them.

I'm afraid this is really going to mess up their kids, and that breaks my heart. Taotally.

I was bawling about it. I know how it feels first hand. It's terrible to be a child and have your family break apart. Especially since it seems like it was the money, fame, and Jon's crisis that broke them apart. Not something, like violence.

UGH
